Community

If you would like to learn more about the communities in my area, please review the following information. It provides you with an overview of the region, details about each town and city, as well as some informative links.

Whitewater Township

Whitewater Region is a township lcoated within the scenic Ottawa Valley in eastern Ontario on the Ottawa River. The region is made up of the Village of Beachburg, the Village of Cobden, the Township of Ross and the Township of Westmeath.

The region is named after the world famous whitewater rapids of the Ottawa River. Thousands of rafters and kayakers arrive during the summer months to ride the waves of the Rocher Fendu portion of the Ottawa. The Township also claims a distinctive place in Canada’s history. An astrolabe bearing the date 1603 and believed to have belonged to Samuel de Champlain was discovered within the Township. A monument commemorating this historic site is located just outside of Cobden on Highway 17.

The Valley is a great place to live, work and play. Tourism is one of the main industries with pursuits including skydivig, whitewater rafting, camping, biking, canoeing, hot air ballooning, ATVing, golfing and hiking. It's a beautiful place to live and is home to many wonderful, friendly people.

Beachburg

Located in the heart of the Ottawa Valley, Beachburg's claim to fame is it's proximity to the whitewater rapids of the Ottawa River. This lovely village is full of charm and home to one of the best country fairs in the valley.

Beachburg has a wonderful elementary school and many local businesses including gift shops, a grocery store, convenience store, hardware store, bike shop, travel agency, publishing businesses and many more. It is also the location of a medical center and senior's home.

The homes in this area range from beautiful old farmhouses to new, custom homes with gorgeous rural views. The village is full of friendly people who all share a wonderful sense of community.

Cobden

Cobden is a great choice for communters due to it's location on the Trans-Canada Highway, also known as Highway 17.

Events include the annual outdoor farmers market that runs from May to October and the highly attended Christmas market. Attractions in the area include Logos Land water park and Cobden Park overlooking Muskrat Lake.

This town is complete with a grocery store, gift shops, hardware store, furniture store, flower shop, ice cream parlour, fine clothing store, irish shopping and more.

Pembroke

The City of Pembroke stands at the joining of the Ottawa and Muskrat rivers in the beautiful Ottawa Valley. This beautiful city strives to maintain a superb quality of life for its residents. From publicly maintained sports and recreational facilities to programs and services aimed at ensuring health and wellness you’ll find a wealth of resources that contribute to you and your family’s well being.

Pembroke is home to many industries that have their origin in the lumber trade. But it also has grown to include other industries and businesses based on technology and innovation. In 2003 a fully redundant fibre optic cable was installed around Pembroke, enabling local businesses to work anywhere in the world – without leaving their desks – through a telecommunications infrastructure that is vital to remaining competitive in today’s global economy.
